From what i remember .. while many county sheriffs also served as deputy U.S. marshals , the two jobs are just different. Their primary responsibilities include apprehending fugitives, managing and transporting federal prisoners, and executing federal court orders.. they would not "take over local law enforcement". Unless I'm wrong , basically they have no jurisdiction but are “in charge” of investigations where they work with other Law Enforcement when tracking down a Fugitive. Tracking down fugitives and dealing with Federal Prisoners/Security, Witness Security, protecting Judges type of security…anywhere in the USA and it’s territories is their “Jurisdiction”.What if the MC simply lives in that town? The Marshals have to live somewhere, right? With the town dying and everything closing up, isn't it possible to declare a sort of federal emergency and take lead after the actual Sheriff retires or whatever happened to him? I'm not saying that you're not right, I wouldn't know, but I saw plenty of movies where some federal marshal rolls into town and takes over local law enforcfement.
MC playing Sheriff with that Marshal title does not quite fit
