She may have to leave the city / country. Preferably go to a country that doesn't have extradition treaties with USA nor the EU, like most of Africa, central Asia, parts of east Asia (Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, North Korea, China) or Russian federation.

MC not confiding in mom is understandable. Did you tell your parents your (dirty) secrets? It can be embarrassing even if they find out by accident. Let alone, as you noted, if mc doesn't talk about personal stuff with practically anyone apart from Marianne in some cases.
