hmm, so the lions share of the problems come from either the mobile platform or the corrupt route?
ive seen other paths still have problems but they arent as severe i think.

I haven't play tested this new update or seen many of the comments (so this might be irrelevant to post) but I've seen people say that being in 1080p causes crashes. You could try playing in Windowed Mode and using 'Borderless Gaming' to force a false fullscreen.

I remembered the command, for anyone who is having problems starting and a Vulkan error message appears (it appears if your video card is old or lower than the GTX 960) open the "command prompt" as administrator and put "?:/???/Goodbye_Eternity-v.0.10.0 --rendering-driver opengl3" (the "?" refer to your directory, for example "Y:/Games/") after writing the game directory just press "enter" and be happy!

is the engine change causing all of these crashes and bugs? if yes then why was the change brought up in the first place?

As far as I remember the engine switch was for versatility to make the game as good as possible. I don't know exactly if the engine is what's causing the crashes, though.

i am also curious as to how many of these problems is because their platform doesnt have vulkan support (older hardware).

It was done immediately after Unity tried to change their license terms to increase their revenue share and introduce per-user installation fees, and before they rolled back the changes. That was quite a short window and I would be shocked if this dev flipped to a new engine in the middle of it coincidentally.

It's also unlikely to be the engine itself causing the issues but rather the porting of a partially complete project to a new engine. Just updating engine versions can often throw up some unexpected issues, switching to a different engine entirely is pure nightmare fuel.

If the crashes are linked to things like setting for anisotropic filtering of textures and such, then it's indeed issues with engine more than the game. Since these are things which are handled by the engine and not the game specifically. The reports generally sound like poor compatibility between display drivers of various devices with what the engine is trying to do.

Note, this doesn't necessarily mean that the engine is solely to blame. There may very well be game-specific issues which cause additional crashes on top of what the engine issues are responsible for.

As for reasons for change, it was supposedly to reduce the size of the game, which was starting to cause issues for Android version, coupled with the devs thinking it'd allow them to give the game more visual flair than what RenPy typically allows. Obviously a poor idea, but the desire to reinvent the wheel is typical for devs with little to no experience (and hence very high opinion of their own skills)

The game crashes quite often :(. In my case it crashes constantly after Yasuka asks me if I prefer "shaved" or "natural" pubes, choosing "natural" crashes the game every single time. The things that help me crash less are

  • Never, ever use the mini map shortcut.
  • Save, save, save, and try different options (like "shaved" instead of "natural" in my case).
  • Limit the use of fast forward, especially when moving between locations.

I think changing the engine wasn't as bad as many people complain, it's easier to develop in the long run, animations, and there are a lot of new animations since I played it more than a year ago, are flawless and smooth. The game also feels better after the change. It still need fixing, but it's already paying off.

When it comes to content it's top notch, very is very few games with art this beautiful, tasty and sexy. Story is a cliché when it comes to "going back in time".

Yes, it's true that this developer is quite well funded, but at the same time they are very responsive, work diligently and take risks when it comes to game design (no full-harem story, ntr, femdom/submissive routes, funny/adult [obsession, bullying, criminal activities, yandere, murders] themes). S/he also took a big risk in changing the game engine for a mature and content-rich project.

Yeah, I mostly always hear good things about the engine. I just don't wanna say it *is* the engine's fault as a guess and it be wrong.

But I do remember hearing about the engine change from Ren'Py being due to its 'limitations'. Ever since the switch the game has been, as you said, nightmare fuel. (I still think it's a great game though)

Oh ignore my comment anyway. I didn't realise they were using Renpy I thought they were on Unity for some reason so I guess the timing is irrelevant. Preeetty sure I was just mixing it up with a different project entirely.

But yeah switching engines several years in is always going to be a mess, but I can see why they did if they were on Renpy before.
