Maybe, point being it doesn't seem to be an issue. Probably something they happened to encounter on their system only

The dev went back to work on their Main Project (Crimson Keep), it may take a long while until new content gets added to Eld.

It may depend on how you access the text log. I can close it if I open the log from the menu, but trying to access it from within a dialogue makes it impossible to close again. (at least for me)

You're right. Text Log triggered from the dialog consistently gives this issue. I see the issue has been logged in the bug log in the discord server.

At the very start of the game, I've spoke to all the villagers and gathered all their quests, but I can't seem to leave the camp to go to the woods. I'm informed by one of the characters that "Gramps" will be waiting next to the Worm at the West Gate to meet me - but there is no-one there. What am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing, I think that its just a bug that got fixed already, unfortunately the new version was not been updated here so you will need to download it from the discord server.

I guess I understand the dev is making another game right now but this game is freaking awesome and they should really be putting in time towards this one as well.

That might happen eventually when the first Arc of the main project is finished since the dev shows interest in doing so.
Now you can't expect the dev to pick a “side-project“ (that was only meant to be a small scale learning project to get used to a new engine) to take over the “main-project' that is the biggest responsible to build the player community that is built around him (specially when he does it as a hobby without taking any financial support).
Now this is my personal preference but I would rather having working only in the main project until is “finished“ than this one to be real (unless working on this one would benefit the main project somehow).
