Op's thesis can't have stats because they are simply using their own personal biases and nostalgia glasses. Bottom line is it's not the games that are the problem, but the players who have played dozens (hundreds, thousands) of games. They've already seen the tropes, gimmicks, various art styles, etc. As such, they need something either more extreme or more intense to get the same feels they got when they played their first dozen or so games "that were soooooo much better" than the 4,000+ games added to F95 last year.

the variety is missing (lately)

)and a good avn is not equal to mtag/harem or similiar
a good avn tells a compelling story with character building/background
no need for much lewd if its done right
like at race for life , tribulations of a mage , game of hearts etc
cant name a good female tag avn like mentioned above - 'cause there is none -imo (not that i am really hard looking for one)
oh and i forgot to mention that souless ai shit popping up ...

meh, i dont want to call out devs but I personally find that a lot of the games that lack lewds and are praised for their stories are actually pretty monotonous stories
i dont see why you cant have an interesting story and a fuckfest at the same time
