More melanin I can't beat off to pale women!

You're not a bad artist -- I can tell you understand how to add depth with shadows/light/shading. If I'm being honest though, it's very cartoon-y, for my tastes.
That's good, I'm actually going for a cartoony look.

And I agree with you with what you said about eyes. This one looks even more cartoony and I still think there's room for improvement with the eyes.

A couple of suggestions/critiques:
  1. I'm sure you already know this, but it's always a good idea to frequently flip your drawing horizontally on X/Y axis while you're drawing it to look for problems.
  2. Eyeballs are shiny. Adding a small white dot over top of each iris (in the same relative position) to reflect the light will add a lil something to them. (See below)
  3. When drawing lips, the upper lip will almost always be darker than the bottom lip because it's not as exposed to the light (unless the character is upside down).
  4. Depending on your art style, using Dodge layers is kind of a "cheat code" to draw attention to certain features. I like to make eyeballs and lower lips look extra shiny.

  1. I do actually, I forgot to apply that technique for this one haha. I actually used it on the last drawing (in the og post).
  2. Yes, I learnt this too and it always looks good when I use it. But, again, I forgot to add it.
  3. You have a point there, nice tip!
  4. Don't really know "Dodge layers" are by name, I'll look into that!
