Cheat Engine Safe?

Anyone know where to get de-bloated/safe cheat engine? Is cheat engine safe?

Some time ago i find a link for clean installer of cheat engine 7.4 (i think) in some forum (maybe fearless)
but i don't/forget where I bookmark it.

And some time today I scan my device using HitmanPro and found trojan(?) malware(?) (I already forgot the name), but/and it deemed by HitmanPro to be dangerous so i uninstall Cheat Engine 7.4 using Revo and then also delete the 7.4 installer

Now after searching, there's many that says about adware, malware, etc in installation, and finding about where and how to get safe cheat engine is hard, there's many people defending what the dev of / cheat engine in general does, and there's not many thread about that problem in the last year.

For now i found 1 reddit post from a reddit user about clean version but I'm still not sure, so still not check and download it

So anyone can help or have suggestion?

----------

TLDR: found possible virus, delete cheat engine and its installer, searching internet and found installer have virus/bloatware problem, there's little detailed info and many (maybe) defend it, troubled to search the clean and safe cheat engine version/download. anyone can help/have suggestion?

uhmmm... you DO know cheat engine has its own page right?
kinda you type cheat engine on google and 98% of the times its the first link

and yes ofc your antivirus will detect it and delete it, its an app that hacks into the programs to modify them

if you want to download cheat engine do it only from their main page

been using cheat engine for years not one single problem from it
and if you scared about it, try using it in offline. It will still work

I know that and as i said, many post (idk if it true or not, but maybe it's likely true and it's alright right to be overcautious?) said the installer (and it's from the official/main page .org site from the github link), not the program itself, is full of ready to misclicked bloatware that potentially to be virus, and some says even the program itself is, but for that part, maybe it's not true, who knows.

and some time ago i found like clean installer download, and i lost/not found that link/thread/post again and some reddit post says also idk if this true, that link/thread/post is already deleted...

mmm... idk what to tell you
i never had any problem with it. There used to be a winrar file to download without the installer but was a big problem bcs it wasnt made by the devs and those rars had weird programs
soo... the installer ended beign the best option
but if you dont want to risk it, dont install it and thats all
but as i said... never had a problem from their main page

is github self compile version (source code zip) safe? why there's little detailed info about CE and many people also ignore/dismiss malware and scummy problem in general?

(virus problem in general)

(compile error)
(installer error)

some says turn off internet when installing to avoid downloading stuff, but in some github issue, installer need internet to work.
there's many like obscure and convoluted (especially for non-tech savvy people) or wrong, misleading info scattered in many places

please if anyone know all of this, can like please explain and correct me if i'm wrong and maybe write simple guide or safe download or just reaffirm my over cautiousness, thank you.

Seems cheatengine official installer comes with the possibility to install adware along with cheat engine itself.
There should be an option in the installer to prevent that. You must manually un/check it or will install crapware.

(remember such behaviour from ... winamp it was, I think. long ago.
When you properly un/checked the "not/ also install shit" options, it was fine. still sort of playing dirty.)

yup, that's why i asked in here, and after more searching i found many said that (don't know true or not or they not really careful) it still installed crapware even though it already uncheck the option and some say it even have native (as in there's no option to not install that) malware in the installer itself. idk there's so many conflicting info

after searching about that i realized cheat engine community seems not really large it seems or it just the community is just quiet

Sadly you can't uncheck it, because there is no checkbox, you are forced to download and install it, at least that's how it was when I installed it the last time.
It was either the 7.4 or 7.5 version and I was surprised that it wanted access to the internet. I did allow it, because it wouldn't install without it. I was extra cautious because of the forced internet access, so I kept my eyes open for strange stuff in the installer. But it installed the adware without even asking or informing me about that shit.

The worst part is, they have a deal going on with that adware company (I forgot what it was, but I think antivirus/antimalware that nests itself into your system, the typical "You can install me, because I protect you" type of shit).
And while I managed to uninstall that hackerware, CE wouldn't even run without it, because it checked my system if I had it installed on my computer.

You can't even go to their subreddit or forum and ask about it because there are so many fanboys shouting you down, and mods deleting anything on the topic if it drew too much attention.

Did you try this out?

Or check their Patreon Page on Kemono.su

That should be the adfree version according to their own website.
It even has the 7.6 version, which is not public yet.

I didn't try it, it could have a patreon checker.

true, this thing is really bugging me out, everywhere i go it just like that and as i said "there's many people defending what the dev of / cheat engine in general does, and there's not many thread about that problem in the last year.". some time ago or just when searching about cheat engine in general, those things is really makes me go crazy and mad and this thing "there's many like obscure and convoluted (especially for non-tech savvy people) or wrong, misleading info scattered in many places" is not make it any less frustrating already

Did you try this out?
thanks, i already knows this, and it's what i mentioned in this first post "For now i found 1 reddit post from a reddit user about clean version but I'm still not sure, so still not check and download it", does you use this version/link?

Hagatagar did you use cheat engine? if so where did you get from?
I still use an old one (7.2), even if some new cheat tables don't work on it.
I went kinda "fuck you" after the malware thing happend, it not only hid itself in the system but even changed all kind of settings, like the starting page of my browsers. So unless they get rid of that hackerware, I won't let me even get bothered with a new version. :HideThePain:

It should work? The deleted part in that reddit post is probably this...
Some other website said:
That is to do what the installer does under proper installs which is delete c:\program files\cheat engine 7.5\autorun\soundextension.lua and the autorun\dlls\dnd.dat so the need to edit those files is negated if you delete both.

Also the file c:\program files\cheat engine 7.5\autorun\eatme.lua needs to be deleted its purpose is to cause problems by resizing the window after a random time, no it isn't your imagination or the game doing it.
...and should remove the build in "I hate my customers" methods of that version (laughter and random window resizes).

Yes, some say it's an "anti-piracy" method, but it's also in the official download, so no, the dev is just a dick.

they say it has patreon checker, soo i'm not even gonna try it
I looked at some comments in the kemono page, maybe this will disable it.

Also if you quote someone, keep their names in there, so they will get an alert/notification, otherwise no one will know you repied to them.

I went through my own phase of trying to find cheat engine that wasn't sus af. Basically, the only real safe way is to get it from and compile it yourself.

According to several sites, even this official github one will contain the "anti-piracy" stuff I mentioned above and will trigger as soon as any antivirus will detect the build in malware of CE.

Hmm, it's been a while. And I'm pretty sure that I had no interest in looking up tables and cheating like that. I just needed the speedhack for a slow ass RPGM game, so I basically just compiled the speedhack feature. Whatever it was, I didn't get any windows defender popups, and that was good enough for me lol. Anything I downloaded from online immediately sent my windows defender on alert before that.

Edit: And the annoying thing is I followed the cheatengine.org link from the github and clicked on download link just out of curiosity of what it's like these days, and my windows defender going crazy again. Damn, why the hell did I click that link lol.

You should download and compile it from source, that way you avoid the possibility of downloading a tainted installer. But as for anything malicious in the Cheat Engine itself, that's something you'll have to look for it. In the past at one point Cheat Engine prevent you from scanning multiple times unless you pay premium price for the software, so know what shenanigan they'll be up to next.

You can always isolate it from the internet using any kind of sandbox program, since it only needs to access program memory and nothing else. Ultimately I think the best solution is to just use a VM and do your unsafe stuff there.
